Ta-lung-tung Pao-an Temple

The Ta-lung-tung Pao-an Temple commemorates Po-shang Ta-ti and belongs to the God of Medicine. It was built during the early Chia- ching period (1796-1821) of the Qing dynasty by the immigrant from Tung-an County, Ch'uan-chou Fu, Fukien Province, and was considered to the their protective temple. The Po-shang Ta-Ti statue came from Pai-chiao, tung-an. It is a large scale temple which has been rebuilt many times; in 1918 the Chang-chou masonry was restored, and the present building is based on the 1918 restoration with Front Hall, Main Hall, Rear Hall, and Bell and Drum Towers. The grand architectural style of the Main Hall, with its double tiered gable roof and gallery around the hall, is close to the Chang-chou style. One of the temple's main characteristics is the stone sculpture from the Kuang-yi Mountain in Taiwan. The roof ridge and wall cap are decorated with ceramic sculpture by famous craftsmen from Hsiamen. The temple's rich decoration gives it its high artistic value.

Classification: Temple Second Class Historical Site
